US announces 230 million dollar sustainment package for India’s M777A2 ultra-light howitzers

New Delhi ( Raghwendra Pratap Singh) : The United States of America has announced a 230 million US dollar sustainment package for India’s M777A2 ultra-light howitzers. In a social media post, US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor said that the defence partnership between India and US is continuously growing and the proposed sale is ready to be concluded.

It’s noteworthy here that India-US defence ties are anchored by a 10-year framework agreement for the Major Defense Partnership. The alliance focuses heavily on joint military exercises, interoperability, and countering regional challenges in the Indo-Pacific. Bilateral trade in military systems exceeds $20 billion, with massive acquisitions including the MH-60R Seahawk helicopters and Apache attack helicopters.

LEMOA (2016): Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement enables mutual access to military facilities for refueling and resupply.COMCASA (2018): Communications Compatibility and Security Agreement facilitates the secure transfer of specialized communication equipment.
BECA (2020): Basic Exchange and Cooperation Agreement provides access to advanced geospatial and satellite intelligence.
Industrial Security Agreement (2019): Allows the sharing of classified defense information with private defense contractors.
