Vietnam to release nearly 10,000 prisoners

New Delhi ( The Indian View team) : Vietnam said Saturday (May 30, 2026) it will release almost 10,000 prisoners, including foreigners, to mark its recent parliamentary elections. Vietnam will release nearly 10,000 prisoners, including foreign nationals, under an amnesty programme marking the recent National Assembly elections and the Communist Party Congress.
The communist nation often announces amnesties before special events or celebrations. Authorities said 9,950 inmates will be freed in early June under an order signed by President and Communist Party chief To Lam. Vietnam regularly grants amnesties to mark major political events, national celebrations and significant anniversaries.

Deputy Public Security Minister Le Van Tuyen said the latest amnesty was intended to commemorate the successful conclusion of the Communist Party Congress and elections to the National Assembly. “The amnesty marks the success of the Communist Party Congress and the elections to the National Assembly,” Tuyen told a press conference on Friday.
