UP govt plans free scooters for 50,000 girls before polls:₹400 crore allocated

Lucknow ( Raghwendra Pratap Singh) : Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government is preparing to roll out a major welfare initiative ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections by distributing free scooters to more than 50,000 meritorious girls this year.
The move is aimed at fulfilling a key promise made in the BJP’s 2022 election manifesto. The government has already earmarked ₹400 crore for the scheme.
Political observers believe the initiative could offer the BJP three major advantages ahead of the elections:
Uttar Pradesh has nearly 13.4 crore voters, including 6.09 crore women voters. The scheme is expected to strengthen the government’s outreach among women.
Most beneficiaries will become first-time voters in the 2027 elections, allowing the government to connect with young voters through welfare measures for girls.
The move also helps the BJP counter opposition criticism over unfulfilled election promises.
