Quad launches Indo-Pacific energy security initiative amid global market concerns

New Delhi ( Vivek Ojha ) : The Quad countries on Tuesday announced a new Indo-Pacific energy security initiative aimed at strengthening regional resilience against disruptions in global energy markets amid rising geopolitical tensions and volatility in oil and gas supplies.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, India, Australia, Japan and the United States reaffirmed their shared commitment to ensuring stable, transparent, secure and resilient energy markets across the Indo-Pacific region.
In a joint statement on Indo-Pacific Energy Security issued after the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi, the countries acknowledged that disruptions in global markets for oil, gas, petrochemical products and critical downstream commodities such as fertilisers disproportionately affect Indo-Pacific nations.

The statement stressed the importance of resilient and diversified supply chains, secure trade flows and uninterrupted maritime commerce, particularly through critical routes such as the Strait of Hormuz.
The grouping also highlighted several regional initiatives already underway, including Japan’s Partnership on Wide Energy and Resources Resilience (POWERR Asia), India’s efforts to support energy security in South Asia and Australia’s initiatives in Southeast Asia and the Pacific through financing and infrastructure support.
According to the statement, the Quad countries will work together under the new initiative to identify areas of cooperation in technology, policy, market analysis, energy management and emergency response exercises.
The initiative will also seek to leverage the capabilities of each country’s energy sector, including strengthening strategic petroleum systems and enhancing regional preparedness during supply disruptions.
To further institutionalise cooperation, the Quad announced plans to convene a Quad Fuel Security Forum for high-level discussions and coordination on regional energy resilience.
