In Mohsin Naqvi’s absence, ICC prepares to debate major changes to cricket

New Delhi ( Raghwendra Pratap Singh) : The International Cricket Council (ICC) is mulling some key changes to playing conditions across formats as it sits for its latest board meeting on Saturday in Ahmedabad. The meeting takes place in the backdrop of the Indian Premier League 2026 final which also takes place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in the same city.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi will not be attending the event , ending speculations over his potential visit to India. As per protocol, Naqvi was invited for the meeting, but he has chosen to give it a miss amid the stand-off between PCB and the Indian board.

Alongside Naqvi, Afghanistan Cricket Board’s Mirwais Ashraf and England and Wales Cricket Board’s Richard Thomson will also not be able to attend the meet, as per Cricbuzz. However, they may attend the conference virtually.

There are some big calls that could be taken in the meeting. The planned expansion of World Test Championship will be discussed with Zimbabwe, Ireland and Afghanistan in line to join the league. The Test championship is currently in its fourth cycle and the existing structure is likely to be retained for at least the next cycle in 2027-29, as per reports.
