France drafts UN plan for Hormuz mission as US proposal faces resistance

International Affairs ( Vivek Ojha) :

France has drafted a UN Security Council resolution to create an international mission aimed at restoring shipping through the Strait of Hormuz as Washington struggles to push through its own text.

The Foreign Ministry in Paris said it could submit the proposal if conditions allow, while a US-Bahraini draft remains under negotiation.

Control of the critically important strait has become a central sticking point in efforts to end the US-Israeli war on Iran with disruption to exports sending oil prices higher.

The US-Bahraini text demands that Iran stop attacks and mine laying in Hormuz, but Russia and China have signalled they may veto it after blocking a similar US-backed resolution in April. France has so far refused to back Washington’s proposal.
