Former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri passes away

Uttrakhand: Former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri, passed away today. He had been ill for a long time. The news of his demise has sent a wave of mourning across the entire state. For the past several days, a continuous stream of politicians and family members had been visiting his residence.

Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri, who served as the fourth Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, was brought into politics by Atal Bihari Vajpayee. This was during the 1990s, after Khanduri had retired from the army. Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri was counted among the most trusted confidants of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Within just two years of entering the Lok Sabha for the first time, Khanduri was appointed as the party’s Chief Whip.
Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri (B.C.khanduri) was an Indian politician and retired major general. He remained as the chief minister of Uttarakhand twice and represented the garhwal division parliamentary constituency of Uttarakhand for 4 times in the Lok Sabha.
B.C.Khanduri was born on 1st October 1934 in Dehradun (Uttarakhand). His father Jai Ballabh Khanduri was a journalist and mother Durga Devi Khanduri was a social activist.He studied B.Sc., B.E, M.I.E (India), long defence management course; educated at Allahabad university (Uttar Pradesh), college of military engineering, Pune (Maharashtra), Institute of engineers (New Delhi) and institute of defence management, Secunderabad. Later, he got married to Aruna Khanduri of whom he has one son and one daughter.
