DRDO successfully conducts maiden flight test of Surface-to-Air Missile Kusha
New Delhi (Raghwendra Pratap Singh) : The Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) today successfully conducted the maiden flight test of Long-Range Surface-to-Air Missile Kusha from the APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha.
The Ministry of Defence said that this maiden test was conducted against an electronic target simulating high-speed and high-altitude aerial threat which was successfully intercepted by the missile system.
It said that the Kusha missile system is capable of neutralising a wide variety of aerial threats including fighter jets, missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles and large enemy aircraft within a wide range and altitude envelope.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO and other stakeholders for this achievement. In a social media post, the Minister said that achievement marks an important milestone in India’s Defence Research and Development.
Mr Singh highlighted that the capability to develop a long-range surface-to-air missile system is possessed by only a handful of nations. He added that this missile system will reduce India’s dependence on imports and significantly strengthen the nation’s air defence capability.
